Carat Buys New Zealand's Largest Media Independent

Douglas Flynn, Chief Executive Officer of the London-based Aegis Group, announced today that Carat, the world's largest independent media communications specialist with net billings of $NZ 20 billion, has bought New Zealand's largest locally-owned media independent, Strategic Media
Strategic Media is also renowned for its event marketing and sponsorship business. Key events the company has managed include the 2000 America¹s Cup Village, the inaugural Rugby World Cup, the 1990 Commonwealth Games and the New Zealand Corporate Golf Championships.
The new company will be known as Carat New Zealand.
"This region is a strategically important market for Carat. We have been investing heavily in the Pacific rim. In particular we believe in the importance of Australasia and we are delighted to make such a strong acquisition in New Zealand", Flynn said.
"We need to secure the best local knowledge to keep up with the rapid change that occurs in how media is purchased and the way New Zealanders use media."
